New Middle Grade Novel!

I’m happy to share that my newest middle-grade novel will be coming out from Red Chair Press in 2028!
This is my anthropomorphized animal story, and it’s an idea I’ve been carrying around since college, so yes, a very long time. I’m thrilled that it’s finally becoming a book. It’s now in the hands of the wonderful UK artist Steve Cox, and I can’t wait to see what he brings to the story.
One of the things I’ve loved most about working on this book has been the editing. When I finished the first full draft, I thought it was in pretty good shape. But for the past four months or so, I’ve reread it almost every day, tweaking a line here, strengthening an idea there, cutting things that weren’t needed, and finding little ways to make the story better.
I can’t stress enough how valuable it is to reread your own work. Again and again. The book is so much stronger now than it was when I first thought it was “finished.”
I’m looking forward to sharing more as we get further along, especially some of Steve’s sketches. Although I started my career as an artist and designer, one of the things I really enjoy about being the author is stepping back and giving an illustrator like Steve the freedom to bring his own ideas and imagination to the story.
I can’t wait to see where he takes it!
